A Clear Vision for a Healthy Pastor-by Mike O’Dell

“A joyful heart is good medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones!”-Proverbs 17:22

Every Successful Pastor needs:
A Counselor,
A Mentor
A Coach
and A True Friend!

The Counselor: will help him come to terms with his personal baggage.

The Mentor: will share with him how he has succeeded in ministry and give him opportunities.

The Coach: will ask him powerful questions that will cause him to see the best way to get from where he is to where he wants to be.

The Friend: will support him emotionally, listen to him without judgment, tell him the truth in love and enjoy doing life with him.

Every Healthy Pastor Will Also Do The Hard Work Required To:

Look In
Look Up
Look Back
Look Out
Look Forward

Looking In: Seeking a balance of…

Spiritual Health
Emotional Health
Physical Health
Relational Health

Looking Up: To clarify your “Call” by…

Confirming your… Faith in Christ!

Confirming your… “Call” to Ministry.

Confirming your… Call to “This” place.

Resting… in that Confirmation!

Looking Back: To Be Free from bondage to…

Sin… pursuit of personal righteousness, taking personal responsibility for our own failings

Family of origin issues… “sins of the fathers” is real and must be acknowledged and dealt with or it will be passed on to the next generation and to present relationships

Relational handicaps… Awareness of how we relate to and treat others as well as personal habits and assumptions that offend or limit trust

Unrealistic expectations… realistic awareness of our strengths and weaknesses as well as a realistic awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of the people we work with and lead

Financial burdens… personal commitment to financial stewardship, prudence in spending and wise financial planning

Looking Out: To Cultivate Fellowship with…

Family… First!
Friends… Second.
Church Members… Third.
Peers… Fourth

Looking Forward: To Be Effective in…

Personal Discipleship…
If the Pastor is not making disciples, how can he lead others to do it???
Leadership Development…
Ephesians 4…Expert in cultivating leaders and church systems.
Witness…
Cultivating “lost” friends? Pastors must be intentional about connecting with the lost.
Kingdom Vision…
Leading the Body of Christ forward with…Mission, Vision, Goals, Strategy, Implementation.

Finally:

Enjoy the Ride

or it will “rid” You
